Frequently asked questions

If something you want to know isn’t here, you are welcome to ask it in an enquiry — there is no obligation to book.

We begin with a consultation of up to 90 minutes. We talk about what has brought you to therapy, go over any paperwork and fees, and decide together whether weekly sessions would help. Feeling nervous or unsure at this stage is completely normal.

Some people come for a short period to work on something specific. Others stay longer and work open-ended, exploring emotional patterns and life experiences more deeply. We review how things are going as we go.

Structured, shorter models are effective at changing a specific symptom or behaviour, and for some people that is exactly the right thing. Psychodynamic therapy works on what sits underneath: the patterns of relating that keep producing the difficulty. If a structured programme would serve you better, I will say so at consultation.

It is a form of in-depth talk therapy that brings unconscious or deeply buried thoughts and feelings to the surface so they can be examined. By looking at how early experiences and relational patterns shape how you function now, therapy aims to foster greater insight and lasting change.

Weekly sessions are £70 for 50 minutes. The initial consultation is up to 90 minutes and costs £85. A limited number of concessionary places are available — please ask when you enquire.

Daytime sessions between 9.30am and 5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wherever possible we keep the same time each week, which helps therapy do its work.

I work with adults aged 18 plus, individually, for therapy. I also offer reflective supervision to practitioners in education, social services and the NHS, and clinical supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists.

Yes, with the usual exceptions in counselling practice where there is a risk of serious harm. I also discuss my work anonymously in regular clinical supervision. The privacy page sets this out in full.
