Confidentiality and your information

What you bring to therapy is held in confidence. This page explains how that works in practice and what happens to the information you send me.

Confidentiality in sessions

What we discuss stays between us. The exceptions are the usual ones in counselling practice: where there is a risk of serious harm to you or another person, where a vulnerable person may be at risk, or where I am required to disclose by law.

Supervision

Like all practising counsellors, I discuss my work in regular clinical supervision. This supports the quality of your therapy. Your identity is not shared in supervision, and my supervisor is bound by the same confidentiality.

Notes and records

I keep brief session notes, stored securely and separately from your contact details. Records are retained for the period required by my professional body and insurer, then securely destroyed. You may ask to see the information I hold about you at any time.

Enquiries through this website

The details you send in an enquiry are used only to reply to you and, if you go on to work with me, to arrange sessions. They are never sold, shared or used for marketing. If you decide not to proceed, your enquiry is deleted.

Online sessions

Online sessions take place by secure video link. I ask that you join from a private space where you will not be overheard, and sessions are never recorded.
