Sessions · Together in the room

Parent and child sessions

A therapeutic space for a child and their parent together. We start from your child’s perspective — what they are feeling and trying to communicate — and I help you see it with them, so that being understood and understanding can grow between you.

Delivered In person · Chelmsford CM2 Online

In-person sessions are usually the better fit; online is available where travel is difficult.

How I work with families

Parents and children together

Children do their best thinking when a trusted adult is alongside them. My work begins with your child’s perspective, and helps you as a parent see the world as they are experiencing it.

  • A parent or guardian is part of the therapeutic space
  • Begins with a consultation with the parent
  • Face-to-face in Chelmsford CM2, or online
  • Please ask about session length and fees

How it works

Starting with your child’s perspective

We start with a consultation with you as the parent or guardian, to understand what has been happening and to decide together whether joint sessions would help. From there, your child is supported to express what they are experiencing, with you alongside them rather than waiting outside.

Much of my role is to help translate: to put words to what a child is showing rather than saying, and to support you in hearing it. Sessions draw on my training in Mentalization-Based Treatment for Families and Video Interaction Guidance — noticing the small moments of connection and misattunement, and building on what already works between you. The aim is never to find fault, but to help each of you make more sense of the other.

This can be a useful route when a young person does not want one-to-one counselling, or when something between you has become stuck after a difficult period.
